Live from the Omni is a live music concert series held in the Omni Theater.
Join us for an evening of music under the stars at the Jane & John Justin Foundation Omni Theater.
About the Band: Ambient chamber group Highway Lights is cellist Sara Nelson and synthesist Justin Sherburn. Their meditative expanses of drone sculpture and sweeping melodies have been called "stunning and transcendent" by the Austin Chronicle. Their music is influenced by Brian Eno, Arvo Pärt and modern ambient artists such as Stars of the Lid. Their music features sweeping cello solos and immersive drone sculptures, a perfect accompaniment for meditation or any mindful listening environment.
Cellist Sara Nelson is a member of the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Austin Opera, and has performed with world-renowned artists such as Stevie Wonder, Lyle Lovett, and Brandi Carlile. A founding member of the Tosca String Quartet, she has recorded and toured extensively with pop icon David Byrne. Her cello work has been featured in films such as "Waking Life" and the TV series "From Dusk Til Dawn".
Justin Sherburn performs live scores to silent films under the name Montopolis. He has had a varied career as a recording artist and touring musician, working with Okkervil River and the 8 1/2 Souvenirs among others, sharing the stage with legends such as Willie Nelson, Roky Erickson, Brian Setzer and Wilco, and appearing on the David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, and Jimmy Fallon television shows, as well as performing at major festivals around the globe.
Join us at 6:30 PM in the Omni Lobby to hang out before the show! Drinks and concessions are available for purchase. The show begins at 7:30 PM.
